Happy Monday Everyone, we have a neat tutorial by Brandie from Brandie's Dandies!
Hey there fellow crafters!! How ya’ll doing? Hopefully you are getting to relax after all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. In today’s tutorial I'm going to show you how to make your own gift bags. They are super easy to make and can be modified for any occasion. I have even made goodie bags for children’s birthday parties with this same design.
Step 1: Pick out a sheet of paper about double the size you want your gift bag to be. Please note:
Cardstock paper will work for this project but is really hard to work with for this project. I recommend using a thinner paper. You can use vellum or even wrapping paper. For this particular bag I used 12 x 10 paper.
Step 2: Fold your paper in half horizontally. Since I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, I used my scoring board to score a line to ensure it was perfectly down the middle of the paper.
Step 3: I used the scoring board again for this step. Score a mark at ½” (depending on how wide you
want your bag to be on the sides, you can use more than the stipulated ½” if you want wider) on the end of the largest side of the paper. The black line is meant to show you where the score mark is since it is hard to see the score mark in the picture.
Step 4: using the side you scored fold each end in towards the inside of the paper so the each fold is
facing each other.
Step 5: Use some type of adhesive and run a strip down the length of the folded strip. I used a Tombo
Mono Adhesive tape runner for this project. Once adhesive is added press the two sides together.
Step 6: Using the scoring board, score a mark at 1” on one end of the paper and fold it open as shown
below.
Step 5: Fold the insides of that fold to the lip of the paper on top and bottom. Then use some kind of
tape to tape it together there. I just used regular invisible scotch tape because it will be the bottom of
the bag but you can use Washi tape to add more “pretty-ness” if you like.
Step 6: Reach inside your bag and open it up and press the bottom flat. You should have your bag shape now. At this step you can trim some off the top if you decide the bag is too tall as well.
Step 7: Trim 2 paper strips from the same paper used for the bag. You want these strips about 1“ wide and just shorter than the length of the bag you made.
Step 8: Choose a coordinating ribbon, twine or string color. Trim the ribbon to the length of handles you want for your gift bag. Then take the ribbon and tape each end of the ribbon on the backside of the two paper strips you made.
Step 9: Use another adhesive tape runner and tape up the back sides of the two strips and adhere the
strips with the ribbon to the inside of your gift bag.
Step 10: You can leave your bag as is at this point or add whatever embellishments that your heart may so desire. I say, “Embellish Away!”
We hope you enjoyed todays project, subscribe and follow our blog or check back for more projects!
Until next time happy scrappin!
